Meet the Team
Owner & Veterinarian
Dr. Elisabeth O'Connor, DVM
Rocket City has been home for over a decade for Dr. Elisabeth O’Connor. Making her house a home are her husband Brian, their two sons, Avery and James, and their dog Bailey. A career in mechanical engineering brought her here in 2009 after graduating from Georgia Tech. She later chose to follow her childhood passion and become a veterinarian. After a stint at North Carolina State University to earn her doctorate in veterinary medicine, she returned to north Alabama to start her dream career. Her special interests include geriatric quality of life care, preventative medicine, client education and pain control.

When she’s not in the clinic, she enjoys painting, singing, attending church, chasing around her two little boys and ballroom dancing with her husband.
Owner & Veterinarian
Dr. Jorge Acosta
Dr. Jorge Acosta has been living in the Athens area for the past twenty years. He graduated with an Associates of Sciences degree from Calhoun Community College before transferring to Athens State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Biology and a minor in Chemistry summa cum laude. Dr. Acosta then went on to graduate from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine before coming back to Athens to begin practicing at Limestone Veterinary Clinic. His special interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, orthopedics, and dermatology. Dr. Acosta is also currently a member of the Athens Rotary Club.

At home Dr. Acosta enjoys spending time with his family which includes his two cats (Twilight Sparkles and Beastie). His interests include fishing, hiking, cooking and spending time in nature.
Shelter Manager
Jocelyn Ragoza
Jocelyn has been working at the Athens Limestone Animal Shelter for the last 8 years and has worked her way up from a Kennel Tech to the Shelter Manager. Jocelyn has done everything from cleaning kennels, saving parvo puppies (she is our parvo expert), to include fostering everything from puppies, dogs, kittens, and nursing moms. She is the point of contact and coordinator for all our dogs that go to rescue. She works tirelessly to save as many as possible along with heading up our foster program with the help of our dedicated volunteers.
Office Manager
Nadine McConkey
Nadine has been involved in animal rescue for over 12 years with experience in animal rescue and veterinary medicine before coming to work at the shelter. She has implemented our new microchip program to help reunite animals with their family along with taking care of our neo-natal kittens. To those that know her, she is our kitten lady or the true cat lady.

Kaitlyn Patterson
Kaitlyn has been working in the veterinary field since January of 2019. During her years she has fallen in love with veterinary and shelter medicine. During her off time at the clinic she works back at the shelter helping anyway she can. Kaitlyn is very outgoing and smart, just like her dog colt.
Veterinary Technician
Tricia Benedetto
Tricia started off as a volunteer at the shelter 6 years ago and has become an essential and integral part of the team. She is our lead for meet and greets, assess our canines, and uses her training as a former EMT of several years to do vaccinations/testing and takes care of our dogs especially the puppies, heartworm positive and those that need some help decompressing.
Cat Rescue Coordinator & Dog Behaviorist
Danielle Jenkins
Danielle is our “Jack of all Trades”. She works as both our dog and cat behaviorist in addition to working with rescues to help coordinate the rescue of cats out of the shelter. Danielle has been involved with animal care and rescue for over 8 years and has a special way of connecting with the animals. She is also our in-house Glamour Shot photographer and helps show of our animals true loving personalities. You will probably see her out testing the dogs in the yard or taking her fabulous photos.
